Two hundred years after banning James Lambert from the hospital, Guy’s Hospital has taken the first step in recognising the key contribution he made to initiating modern health care.
To coincide with the 2023 James Fry Lecture I delivered to alumni on 10 October (James Lambert: Guy’s neglected hero), a poster dedicated to him has been unveiled in the Gordon Museum.
Sitting alongside tributes to Richard Bright, Thomas Hodgkin, Astley Cooper and many other great alumni, this marks the first time James Lambert has been mentioned in the history of this esteemed institution.
Following my lecture, the alumni pledged to try and get a blue plaque to James in the grounds of the hospital.
